Computer Aided Design

One of the projects this semester was making a flyer for the 2021 MTSU Fashion Show. I used photoshop to edit photos I took prior. I really enjoy glitch art and I had a lot of fun learning how to make it during this project. I found the royalty free line art image of a face and worked with my professor to figure out the best placement for it. We all went through many rounds of peer review and revisal to complete the project.

The final project this semester was making a line time of the Elrod family’s business. We worked with Cecil Elrod and the documents he provided us. We asked him questions about the documents and laid them into a timeline and my partner typed up the information for the spread. The rest of the class was also put into groups for their own specific decades. All together we put together a century of a timeline of their business. The whole spread will be displayed at Rutherford Arts Alliance in 2020.

I developed my senior line with help from my pattern making and CAD class. In pattern making I developed my sketches and design ideas and in CAD I fleshed out the designs. I redrew my original sketches in photoshop and colored them with photoshop as well. In illustrator I designed the flats for my garments. I got very familiar with illustrator this semester by making flats. I also colored them in illustrator and made my own gradients. You can see more of my senior collection in the Pattern Making tab on my portfolio..

This assignment was to make a branding spread like we were starting our own business. I came up with my company name, Niched Clothing, and I made the logo in class with help from my professor, but the full spread was made during remote learning. I enjoyed this project a lot. I have a very distinct style and aesthetic, so it was easy for me to decorate the business card and letters. Making the logo helped me understand how to make objects in illustrator.

For this assignment we were tasked to interview 3 men in different stages of careers and then pick one to style some outfits for. I chose the “pre-pro” someone who hasn’t started their career yet. I picked out 3 outfits and put them together in a spread in an aesthetically pleasing way and including the information about where to buy the items. Cutting out and arranging these pictures helped me become very familiar with photoshop.

For the children’s print assignment we were tasked with making a line of prints that would be marketed for children’s clothing. It had to be made with illustrator. This was one of the big assignments we did after spring break when all classes were moved online. I had some trouble with it since I didn’t have that much experience with illustrator, but I enjoyed making the motifs and prints when I got the hang of it.
